Packed fields for governors' races in AL, GA

Candidates plan for 2010 governors' races

In Alabama, the governor's race is already crowded with candidates: Seven Republicans have announced their intention to run, and two, possibly four, Democrats are in the race.

In Georgia, with Rep. Nathan Deal's Friday announcement of his run for governor, the competition is up to at least twelve candidates. Yet the polled favorite for the Democrats -- former Gov. Roy Barnes -- hasn't said whether he'll run in 2010. On the GOP side, with Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle dropping out of the gubernatorial race due to health reasons, Sen. Eric Johnson revised his sights on the office of lieutenant governor to the state's top spot.

It should be an exciting election season!
